It has been a busy summer here at Lake Shelbyville Flying Club. We have had 2 new Private Pilots pass their check rides. Congrats, Thad and Kaitlyn, on completing your certificates. Ben passed his CFI check ride this summer and is ready to teach new pilots how to fly. The 150 is flying a lot with students learning to fly. The Cardinal is in the avionics shop getting an audio panel and IFR GPS installed. It will be a full-fledged IFR platform after the upgrade. Our meeting this month is on Saturday, November 23rd at 8:30
March 2024
It has been a strange winter with weather complicating things for flying. Somehow our two newest students soloed this past month. Congrats to father son duo Cory and Ethan on soloing on the same day. We also have 2 students almost ready for their Private Pilot checkrides. The weather has been a factor on their journeys to becoming Certified pilots. Come and join us on Thursday, March 28th at 6:30 for our monthly meeting to see how you can join the club.
September 2023
Update – The September meeting has been moved to Tuesday the 26th.
It has been a month of maintenance here at Lake Shelbyville Flying Club. The 150 is fresh out of annual inspection and ready to go for another year. We chased some electrical issues in the Cardinal, but finally got it straightened out. We also hosted a group of Boy Scouts for their Aviation Merit Badge. Come by on the 28th at 6:30 at the Shelby County Airport to see how you can get in the air.
August 2023
We had another first solo this month. Congrats to Kaitlyn on the achievement. Come out on the 31st to see how you can get in the air. The Cardinal was in Oshkosh for Airventure week. As summer winds down and the days get cooler, there will be a lot of good flying weather before winter sets in.
July 2023
After last month’s storms canceled our meeting, the weather is looking favorable to have a meeting this month. We had a good turnout for the Fly-In and Car Show at Shelby County Airport at the beginning of the month. We had a lot of interest in the club, and hope to see some new faces on Thursday night. The Cardinal should be in Oshkosh by then and I am looking forward to hearing how the show was next month.
June 2023
This has been a busy month at the flying club. Congratulations to club member Melissa on recently passing her flight review after a lengthy time away from aviation. There are 3 active students getting close to solo. We have added 2 new members and have a few more interested. Come by on Thursday the 29th at 6:30 to see how you can be a part of a growing community of pilots. Also, stop by on July 8th at the airport for a fun-filled day filled with cars and airplanes. What could be better than that?
May 2023
We have been busy this month. Our 150 has been busy with students. The Cardinal has passed the spar AD and should be good to go for another 56 years. Come by Thursday night to see how you can be a part of our growing club.
First Flight
Congratulations to Thad Myers on starting his flight training in our Cessna 150 with CFI John Fitzpatrick.
March News
Spring flying season is right around the corner and both of our planes are ready. Come to our next meeting on March 30th at 6:30 to see how you can get up in the air this summer.
This winter the Cardinal has been getting a little work done. We now have a preheater installed for engine preheat in the winter. Radio #1 has been replaced and is working like new. We have also installed an uAvionix tailBeacon for ADS-B out compliance. One of our members also is letting us use his Stratux ADS-B receiver.
